In Circle K bag flag, Bjelland enlarges the familiar Circle K plastic shopping bag into a monumental fabric flag, transforming a disposable item of convenience into a durable emblem of contemporary consumer culture. By scaling up the proportions of the bag and reconstructing its graphic identity through stitching, fabric, and hardware, the work shifts attention from the transient nature of retail packaging to its unexpected symbolic weight.
Presented as a flag, the piece highlights how commercial logos and everyday branding operate as informal symbols—markers of belonging, habit, and routine. The enlarged bag becomes both humorous and disquieting, amplifying the visibility of a design normally encountered in passing. In this translation from small, functional object to oversized banner, Bjelland invites viewers to reconsider how corporate symbols shape public space, personal identity, and the visual landscape of late-capitalist life.
